People’s Film Collective

People’s Film Collective is best known for its organisation of the annual Kolkata People’s Film Festival (KPFF)—a people-supported, independent, volunteer-led festival screening contemporary political documentary and fiction cinema from India, Southasia, and Southasian diaspora. Since 2013, they have has upheld the slogan, “People’s Cinema with People’s Support,” rejecting government and other institutional funding to maintain full autonomy and a sharp political edge.

Across its twelve editions, KPFF has presented compelling films ranging from to migration, labour, caste, gender, and ethnic violence, standing with oppressed communities and continuing to nurture a countercultural space for a “cinema of the 99%.”

For Kos Minar 2026, People’s Film Collective has curated the films Amma Ki Katha, Siege in the Air, Noor Islam, and Comrade Poopy.
